Launch APF coaching track gender in value chains

In 2010 Agri-Profocus Uganda organized an exchange event sharing experiences among APF Uganda members. What came out was a need for practical support / tools / and coaching in integrating gender in ongoing value chain work.

As this topic also has come up in other APF countries (including Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia), APF members KIT and Fair and Sustainable together with Agri-Hub coordination have developed a coaching track. Have a look at the background document. The aim is to:

Strengthen the capacity on Gender & Inclusion in Value Chain Development of organizations participating in the APF Agri-hubs in the respective countries

So:

  1. Are you a development value chain practitioner interested in integrating a gender perspective in your work? Or are you a gender specialist interested in working on gender sensitive value chain development?
  2. Is your organization planning a concrete gender sensitive value chain intervention?
  3. Are you up to investing time in particpating in a coaching track with likeminded practitioners?

Then this coaching track may be for you!

You can find out more by particpating in our Kick off workshop

Basics of the Coaching Track (download invitation)

Target group

The coaching track has an organisational focus and aims at developing the capacity of organisations to implement gender inclusive value chain development projects. The coaching trajectory will be accessible for organisations with plans to increase the gender sensitivity of their value chain related interventions. Of each organisation ideally 2 staff members will participate, preferably a gender specialist and a value chain specialist.

Services provided

Participating organisations will benefit from:

  • 3 days of coaching by a senior gender specialist and/or a senior value chain specialist)
  • A toolkit with instruments which can be used in different phases of the project cycle of a gender sensitive value chain development intervention (selecting a VC, analysis of a VC, strategizing, implementing an upgrading strategy and measuring results).
  • Learning from other organisations through:
    • Peer assists or exchange visits (to other organisations in the coaching track with a similar case)
    • Literature (via access to a bibliography of relevant studies)
  • Joint sessions allowing for training and exchange of experience
  • Assistance in documentation of experiences contributing to a more in-depth learning.

Contribution of the participating organisation

  • Commitment to participate in the whole coaching trajectory and actively learn by doing.
  • Assign staff (ideally 2 staff: one gender specialist and one value chain specialist) for the trajectory and allow them to invest time in learning by doing based on a real life case.
  • Costs involved in travel and accommodation to Addis for workshops and other meetings
  • A fee of $ 500,- Per organization.

Ownership and management

The participating organisation is at the steering wheel of the coaching trajectory. Together with the consultant the organisation will formulate coaching questions and an action plan.

Dear colleagues many thanks for the initiatives and excellent ideas.

Agribusiness Initiative Trust (aBi Trust) promotes gendermainstreaming in value chains for her partners using a Household approach and would like them to participate in the coaching workshops. They may not be members of agriprifocus now. How do we facilitate them to participate?

aBi Trust is currently seeking for innovative ideas regarding gender in value chains to increase women and youth competitiveness in agribusiness. If you have an innovative idea,  Come and we facilitate you to impliment it.
